Switching to Anfield for a moment, it appears there is more than one candidate in the race to provide a replacement for the injured Virgil van Dijk.

German outlet Bild claims that Schalke could be willing to sell Turkish center-back Ozan Kabak for around £18m in January.

However, it is now being suggested that the Reds also have their eye on Kabak’s 19-year-old Finnish team-mate in Gelsenkirchen, Malick Thiaw.

With all the reigning uncertainty over their managerial situation, have Manchester United just been handed a boost in their long-running pursuit of England forward Jadon Sancho?

Speaking to Bild, Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke suggested there was a “limit” to how long they could repel advances for their top stars as all clubs across Europe deal with the financial losses associated with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

“We could have made a big, valuable transfer in the summer, that’s well known,” he said. "But we’re glad it didn’t come to this.

“Of course, we will also implement transfers again in the future, because Covid is clearly throwing us back. Even the biggest clubs are feeling the effects of the pandemic, be it Bayern, Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“At some point you come to the limit of what you can answer for. You can even see that in Munich right now with David Alaba as an example."

Eriksen has struggled to impress at Inter Milan, scoring just once in 22 league games.

Now reports in Italy claim Danny Rose and Dele Alli could be involved in a swap deal.

That would be quite something.
